It’s Time to Hold the Next Government Accountable on Plastic Pollution
85% of Australians are concerned about plastic pollution*, yet the current Government continues to fall short on delivering real packaging reform.
Outdated policies mean more plastic waste polluting our environment, increasing household costs, and driving up emissions.
Australians are fed up—and we’re calling on the next Federal Government to take bold action and make producers responsible for the plastic they put on the market.
We can’t afford more broken promises.
It’s time to:
-
Introduce a mandatory Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for packaging by 2026—ensuring manufacturers reduce, reuse, or recover their packaging.
-
Roll out a national soft plastics collection scheme—implemented as soon as possible to stop plastic waste piling up in landfill.
-
Continue strong regulations to phase out problem plastics—no more delays or loopholes.
-
Require major stadiums and public events to switch to reusable cups and containers—ending the single-use waste cycle.
-
Hold elected MPs to the same standard—by committing to ditch single-use cups and takeaway containers in favour of reuse.
The message is clear: Australians want real solutions that cut waste, protect our health, and reduce environmental harm.
